CS Kariuki Launches Kajiado North National Youth Service Youth Empowerment Programme

Ongata Rongai March 23, 2017

Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Cabinet Secretary Mrs. Sicily Kariuki on Thursday dismissed critics of the National Youth Service - Youth Empowerment Programme and asked wananchi to ignore them.

Describing those terming the project as fake, CS Kariuki associated them with prophets of doom and clarified that it is a real programme which will achieve its set goals of empowering the unemployed youth in the country.

Noting that the program has been implemented in 105 constituencies, Mrs. Kariuki noted that plans are under way to launch it in all the 290 constituencies.

“Am putting on notice those terming programme as fake; they will not succeed in derailing it as it is for real. I also make it clear that under my watch it will grow into a big entity to save the youth from poverty,” Mrs. Kariuki said.

The CS made the remarks when she officially launched the Kajiado North Constituency NYS YEP at Nakeel grounds in Ongata Rongai, where she commissioned 900 cohorts and handed them tools of work at a colorful ceremony also witnessed by the area MP Hon. Joseph Manje.

Reiterating that not a single cent of the NYS YEP has been misused, CS Kariuki said over Sh. 1.5 billion continues to accumulate daily and had been transferred to various SACCO accounts.

She added that the funds are in safe custody and assured the beneficiaries that the money would be utilized as intended.

Responding to a request from local leaders, CS Kariuki said the program encompasses all 47 counties in the country and would ensure fairness in enlisting the cohorts.

Cautioning the cohorts against indiscipline, the CS advised them to adhere to the slogan “True to Self, True to Country” so as be role models in the society.

She urged them to engage in agri-business and entrepreneurship in order to achieve economic empowerment.

At the same time CS Kariuki advised the cohorts not to be used by politicians to achieve their selfish political gains during and after the election period.
