The initiative was organized by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Since inception of the program a total of 133 youth from Kenya have benefited from ABE scholarships.

Bilateral meeting
Cabinet Secretary Mrs. Sicily Kariuki held bilateral meeting with Hon. Ummy Mwalimu, Minister of Gender, Health and Community Development in Tanzania and Hon. William Muruli Mukasa, Minister Gender, Labour and Social Development in Uganda. In attendance was Hon. Peter Serukamba, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee in charge of Gender issues in Uganda and Deputy Permanent Representative of Kenya Mission in Newyork Ms. Koki Muli. The countries agreed on the need to have a regional initiative to drive the action towards eliminating gender and sexual violence.

DEVELOP A SAVING CULTURE", CS KARIUKI ADVISES THE YOUTH
Youth across the country have been advised to adopt a saving culture for a better future.
Addressing NYS cohorts in Kinango town and at Baraza Park in Matuga, Kwale County during the launch of the NYS Youth Empowerment Programme, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Mrs Sicily Kariuki called upon the youth to develop a saving culture for them to create a youth economy.
"I urge you to develop a saving culture and avoid harmful engagements that can affect you negatively and destroy your future", CS Kariuki advised.
The Cabinet Secretary reaffirmed the Government's commitment towards empowering the youth and women through various affirmative action initiatives.
CS Kariuki advised the youth to be peace ambassadors and not to be misused by politicians during this campaign and electioneering period.
She also took the opportunity to implore Members of Parliament to pass the Two Thirds Gender Bill so as to ensure gender parity in leadership and other positions as stipulated in the constitution.
Kwale Women Representative Zainab Chidzuga, who accompanied the CS during her itinerary, lauded the government for the efforts towards addressing youth challenges.
Kinango MP Gonzi Rai thanked the government for its development programmes in the region citing the ongoing construction of roads such as Samburu- Kinango-Kwale as a major milestone that will uplift the economic standards of the region through easy movement of goods and services.
Concerning the Affirmative Action Funds, Mrs Kariuki appealed to the youth who are not absorbed into the NYS programme to organize themselves in groups so as to benefit from interest free loans and start businesses thus creating employment so as to transform their livelihoods.
“Taking up these opportunities will ensure that you are able to start and develop something of your own that will uplift, not only yourself, but the community in which you live in. You have the potential, the energy and creativity, all of which are ingredients of an entrepreneur,’’ she added.
CS Kariuki also disbursed loans to various youth and women groups in the two constituencies before flagging off earth moving machinery to be used for construction works in Kwale county.
During the visit, CS Kariuki was accompanied by Kinango MP Gonzi Rai and County Women Representative Zainab Chidzuga among other leaders who pledged to support government initiatives in the county and the country at large.
Later, CS Kariuki visited the Kenya School of Government, Matuga campus where she called on public servants to work as a team and be non-partisan in delivering government services to the people.Develop a saving culture
