The initiative was organized by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Since inception of the program a total of 133 youth from Kenya have benefited from ABE scholarships.

Bilateral meeting
Cabinet Secretary Mrs. Sicily Kariuki held bilateral meeting with Hon. Ummy Mwalimu, Minister of Gender, Health and Community Development in Tanzania and Hon. William Muruli Mukasa, Minister Gender, Labour and Social Development in Uganda. In attendance was Hon. Peter Serukamba, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee in charge of Gender issues in Uganda and Deputy Permanent Representative of Kenya Mission in Newyork Ms. Koki Muli. The countries agreed on the need to have a regional initiative to drive the action towards eliminating gender and sexual violence.

CS Kariuki urges Embu residents to heed President Kenyatta’s advice.

Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Cabinet Secretary, Mrs. Sicily Kariuki who has been drumming up the MVRII in Embu County, on Wednesday joined President Uhuru Kenyatta during his visit in the county to rally residents to register as voters.
The President has been leading a massive campaign in the Central and Eastern regions urging unregistered voters to register.
President Uhuru called on the residents to turn out in large numbers for the success of the exercise.
After seeing off the President and his entourage, CS Kariuki joined Huduma Mashinani event held at Embu stadium where she issued Affirmative Action Funds cheques worth over Sh.5 million to women and youth groups in the county.
Advising the beneficiaries, CS Kariuki enlightened them on the importance of prudently using the cash to achieve economic empowerment.
She decried the low pace of the residents on applying for the loans which do not attract any interest and challenged them to form groups in order to benefit from the funds to uplift their welfare.
Echoing President Kenyatta’s advice to the youths, CS Kariuki told the attentive crowd to heed the wise counsel to refuse to be used by politicians bent on causing divisions.
Mrs. Kariuki cautioned the youths in the area against gambling with their votes noting that enlisting as voters was crucial to determine how they wanted to be part of our governance systems.
Runyenjes MP Cecily Mbarire, Embu Deputy Governor, Ms Dorothy Nditi were among other local leaders and government officials who accompanied CS Kariuki.
