Government disbursed 21.6bn through Affirmative Fund
The government disbursed ksh. 21.6bn to empowerment programmes for women, youth and persons living with disability since the programmes began. Of the amount, 4.5bn has been allocated to Uwezo Fund, 7.45bn to Women Enterprise Fund (WEF) and 10.1bn to the Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF).
Speaking in Malindi Constituency when she disbursed ksh. 2.19m to 24 groups, Cabinet Secretary, Sicily Kariuki said the fund has benefited a total of 1.19 million people, 351,000 women and youth groups and transformed lives of over 9 million families over a perod of seven years.
Mrs. Kariuki instructed fund managers of these empowerment programmes to sensitize all target groups to enable them take loans and turn around their lives. She said the governmnet was working closely with women representatives from the county to come come up with programmes to assist the elderly, young people and orphans.
The NYS empowerment programme, Mrs Kariuki said, will be rolled out in the area for three months to help young people to earn income through clean up of the environment and also collaborate with NACADA to rehabilite youth affected by drugs.
The youth will be deployed to Shella, Malindi Town, Ganda, Kakuyuni and Jilore wards in February 2016
