Ms. Mwanamaka Amani Mabruki joined the Ministry of Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs in April, 2017 as the Principal Secretary for Gender Affairs following a reshuffle by H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta on March 31st, 2017. Prior to this appointment, Ms. Mabruki was the Principal Secretary for the State Department of Devolution in the Ministry of Devolution and Planning from August 15th, 2014.
Being the Principal Secretary in charge of Gender Affairs, she is charged with the responsibility of coordinating the implementation of Gender equality and women empowerment programmes in the country, overseeing the access and utilization of Affirmative Action Funds; Women Enterprise Fund (WEF), UWEZO, the National Government Affirmative Action Funds (NGAAF), the 30% Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) for women, youth and persons with disabilities, elimination of Gender Based Violence in all its forms including FGM, and ensuring access to justice and safeguarding other gender equality as espoused in the Constitution.
Since she joined the State Department of Gender Affairs, she has launched the Strategy on Greater Participation of Women in Elective Politics and has overseen activities aimed at restructuring the State Department.
While at the State Department of Devolution, she oversaw the development of County Model Laws which aim to provide County Governments with resources to fulfill constitutional mandates, and the Devolution Policy which provides a framework for inter and intra-governmental coordination.
Previously, Ms. Mabruki was the Principal Secretary for East African Affairs, a position she held since her appointment as Principal Secretary, in July, 2013.
Prior to her appointment as Principal Secretary, Ms Mabruki was the Managing Director of the Kenya National Shipping Line. During her tenure at the Shipping Line, she developed the first strategic and business plans which aimed at positioning the company as a world class shipping line.
Ms. Mabruki holds a Masters and Bachelor in Economics degrees both from the University of Nairobi. She has also attended several professional and senior management workshops, seminars and courses locally and abroad. She is certified under the Trustee Development Programme, the Corporate Governance Programme for Directors and the Mwongozo Code of Governance for the Public Sector.
