Enhancing Manufacturing
- Kenya Youth Employment and Opportunities Project (KYEOP) is a World Bank Funded Project under the Directorate of Youth. The Project has facilitated 1069 youth to access grants for the establishment of cottage industries in 5 Counties (Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Kwale and Nakuru). The Youth were able to establish various cottage businesses including brickmaking, beadwork, agribusiness, and fashion and design.
- 20,000 more youth are lined up for grants by the year 2021 in the following 17 counties: Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Kwale, Nakuru, Kiambu, Migori, Kitui, Turkana, Bungoma, Kisii, Kakamega, Mandera, Wajir, Nyandarua, Machakos and Kilifi.
- National Youth Service (NYS) through Cotton growing directly contributes to cotton production of 200,000 bales thus contributing to bridging the current shortfall in the textile industry. So far more than 300 acres are planted with cotton in Lambwe, Hindi and Witu NYS field units. Plans are underway to increase cotton production to 1,000 acres.
